This place is great, unpretentious and understated. Great beer and whisky selection and a favourite spot to drop in for a tipple on the way out.

I found myself in this pub after a stroll down George IV bridge and an all-mighty thirst for a pint. Being a fan of the Greyfriars Bobby story, I felt drawn to this place. Was a tad disappointed due to how busy it was- there were no seats- but then I guess this is to be expected from such a tourist haunt. There was however a good selection of beers and a lively atmosphere. I'd go back again.

Although this is certainly a tourist-oriented 'Scottish pub', it's actually very pleasant to drink in. Although it can often get very busy, it still maintains a very comfortable atmosphere. Greyfriar's Bobby is a dog who starved to death grieving for his master by the man's grave. The bones of man and dog are buried next door. Go check it out, if you want.

Definitely a tourist and student spot, firstly because of its name, and secondly because of the student discount on beer and ales but not on wine or other drinks. I visited it only once because a friend recommended it as 'the place where they serve the best haggis'. I never tried the real haggis since my stomach doesn't agree with it after two disastrous attempts but the veg haggis wasn't too bad. The bar staff are friendly but a bit slow. Not bad place for an afternoon chill out.

The pub is located just across the road from a statue of the famous terrier dog Bobby and next to the graveyard where he allegedly sat on his masters grave until he himself died. Because of the dogs' legend and the obvious tourist interest this pub can often get quite busy. Outside of the pub it's painted a pillarbox red however the inside is much less flamboyant and has a large wooden bar with lots of comfortable bar chairs and leather backed seats. The beer served is really nice and they have a good selection of whisky and real ales. The pub also serves food (which i've not tried) until early evening and has live music on the weekends.

A great student bar which is also popular with the tourists. plays a bit on the connections with the dog of the same name but usually a great atmosphere in here when it is full.. staff are friendly enough and beer is good.

Friendly bar staff, serves food has lots of leaflets for edibnurgh attractions, cctv, scottish menu, good malt whiskey collection, large screen tv, live traditional scottish music, tarot nights, al little toy dog (grey friars bobby) on top of bar, penny farthing bike on wall, serves coffe expresso latte tea, old lanterns on display, on walls there are pictures of grey friars bobby and pictures of old edinburgh

Smart, laid back pub right next door to the statue of Greyfriars Bobby. The bar is on several levels, with little snugs and bigger tables. It's a nice place also to sit outside and watch the world go by. There's a good selection of malt whiskies, and the added bonus of Peroni on draught. Staff are very pleasant too. Well worth visiting.

I recently decided to organise a regular night to play cards with like-minded people - i.e. geeks - and needed to find a place to meet. Greyfriars Bobby was the obvious choice. Located on Candlemaker Row, just off the George IV Bridge in central Edinburgh, Greyfriars Bobby is famed mostly as the place where the dog Bobby waited patiently for his dead master to return to him for 14 years before expiring - they're both buried in the nearby Greyfriars Graveyard. The bronze statue of said hound out the front of the pub is a fixture of the Edinburgh tourist route - so much so that apparently at some point in the past a cluey owner of the pub turned the statue around so as to include Greyfriars Bobby Bar in the background of any photos taken of the front of the statue. Can't get better marketing than that. Anyhoo - go along on Wednesday night for some great live music and a few quiet drinks.
